Full-time Maintenance/Transportation Director

Mapleton School District – Mapleton, OR

Position: Full-time Exempt Maintenance/Transportation Director

Position Type: Confidential

Full-time: 10 hours/day 4 days a week

Starting Salary: $67,022/Year based on salary schedule

Benefits: Excellent benefit package including insurance, PERS retirement, and vacation leave.

POSITION BREAKDOWN:

To oversee the operations of the Maintenance and Transportation Departments and provide students, employees and the community with a safe, secure, clean and comfortable environment in which to learn, play, and work and to provide a safe and efficient transportation system ensuring the safety of all riders.

Evaluation annually by the Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The applicant must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license, pass a school bus driving test, and pass a school bus driver’s physical examination. The district may provide training.

Applicant is subject to and must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

Applicant must be able to perform the regular physical aspects of the position, including but not limited to: occasionally lifting 50+ pounds, climbing and working from ladders, walking on and working on sloped and unsloped roofs, working in crawl spaces and attics, using hand tools and power tools, operating large machinery and vehicles, other requirements as needed to maintain facilities and vehicles.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.                   Management/Supervision 

  • Manages and supervises Maintenance and Transportation programs and staff.
  • Screens, selects, trains, assigns and disciplines custodial and transportation personnel.
  • Maintains positive and effective communication with school personnel and students.
  • Is responsible for mandatory OSHA safety training for all department staff.
  • Is responsible for annual evaluations of custodial and transportation department staff.
  • Maintains evaluation and training records pertaining to staff.
  • Monitors and approves time sheets of Transportation and Custodial staff.
  • Is responsible for emergency calls pertaining to buildings and transportation.
  • Maintains safety standards to conform to state and insurance regulations. 

2.                   Transportation 

  • Conforms to all school transportation policies as well as state and federal laws regarding school transportation.
  • Oversees all aspects of transporting the district’s students and the maintenance and operations of the district’s vehicles.
  • Keeps Superintendent and Principals informed of new or ongoing issues or problems related to transportation of students. 

3.                   Maintenance 

  1. Oversees schedules and procedures for the regular, ongoing custodial and maintenance care of all buildings.
  2. Inspects buildings on a regular basis for needed maintenance and repair and to determine that high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security are maintained.
  3. Conducts needed maintenance when possible and contracts other needs within procurement guidelines.
  4. Establishes and recommends priorities on repair projects.
  5. Maintains all necessary licensure and certifications required for position. (Integrated Pest Management, Asbestos Hazard Emergency Responce Act, etc.)

4.                   Finance 

  • Makes purchases as necessary within procurement guidelines and requirements for departmental operation and submits receipts for all transactions. 

5.                   Other 

  • Participates in meetings as required by the Board, Superintendent, Principals and parents in reference to student transportation and facilities maintenance.
  • Sits on applicable committees as required.
  • Undertakes other duties as requested by Superintendent and Board.
